Anti-natalism is a term coined in 2006 for the view that it is morally wrong for people to reproduce. The view has more recently gained popularity in the internet and academia.

Direct democracy is a form of democracy where every citizen decides and votes for the policy issues their respective government should handle. Unlike the status quo, where most nations elect or appoint representatives to enact policy for them (e.g. electing members of parliament, or a President), a direct democracy would have none of these representative figures. Under a direct democracy, citizens of a community, country, etc. would raise issues or policy ideas, and all other citizens would vote on whether they should or shouldn’t be implemented.

The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) is one of the most successful teams in international soccer. Altogether, the USWNT has won 4 World Cups, 4 Olympic gold medals, and a number of continental championships. On March 8, 2019, every member of the current USWNT filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation (USSF, the nonprofit regulatory body for U.S. soccer). At the heart of this lawsuit is the pay discrepancy between the USWNT and the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT). Players on the USWNT make less money than the USMNT, despite the USWNT being more competitively successful than the USMNT. On May 2, 2020, a judge dismissed the pay equity elements of the gender discrimination suit.

In Canadian University Engineering and Computer Science programs, Cali or Bust is a prominent narrative that states that an internship or full time job offer is only valuable if it is either based in the US or a Big 4 tech company (Facebook/Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Google), with offers outside of those companies considered to be a “bust”.

Despite the name Cali, the narrative applies to all US based internships.
